MMK to support left parties in some seats

. Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK), the newly floated political outfit of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhakam and a member of 'Social Democratic Front,' would support the left parties, where the party or front is not contesting for the May 13 Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu.

As such MMK has decided to contest four seats, while other members of the front Puthiya Tamizhakam three seats and Indian National League in a few seats, MMK Pollachi constituency candidate, E Umar told reporters in Coimbatore on Friday.

The front would discuss and decide the strategy for other constituencies, where its and Left candidates were not contesting, he said.

The front would strive to rectify the prevailing anomalies in the OBC list both at Central and State level and also fight for implementation of reports of Sachar committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission on reservation, he said.

Asked why TMMK, which always supported DMK or AIADMK, decided to form a new front this time, Umar said DMK had earmarked only one seat for MMK, which was "very less" considering the over 10 per cent of Muslim population.

MMK wanted to fight in more number of seats and that too on it own symbol, he said adding the party has not approached AIADMK for alliance.
