Our Staff Reporter adds from Tirupur:

Nominations of 12 of the 34 candidates who had filed their papers for Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency were rejected following the scrutiny held at the Collectorate here.

A notable one is the rejection of papers submitted by Bahujan Samaj Party’s both main and dummy candidates.

Rejected

Following is the list of candidates whose nominations were rejected:

K. Thangaraj (AIADMK dummy); T.Sakunthala (Independent); V.A.Gopal (Akila India Vellalar Peravai); D. Rathinamoni (All India Trinamool Congress); S. Subramaniam (DMDK dummy); J. Nomination papers of three dummy candidates of recognised political parties (i.e. AIADMK, BJP and DMDK) got rejected automatically once the nominations submitted by the main candidates were declared valid as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

The other nominations were rejected on the grounds like name not figuring in the electoral rolls, among other reasons.

The scrutiny of nomination papers was carried out directly by the Returning Officer, C. Samayamoorthy.

Election Observers appointed for Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency, Mohan Chandra Upreti (Tirupur North and Tirupur South Assembly segments); Shiv Bardani Bhadauria (Bhavani and Anthiyur) and S. Ramu (Perundurai and Gobichettipalayam), were present during the process.
